It’s obvious that the weather has been changing. There are no more highs in the 90s and heading out the door now requires a jacket. According to weatherspark.com, in 2014 there was a nine-day streak of days below freezing right here in Rexburg. Between the months of September and February the temperature in Madison County can range anywhere from 57°F to -20°F, making our community one of the coldest in Idaho. Idaho Falls reached number 18 on the list of America’s 25 coldest cities, according to thedailybeast.com.

Rexburg and Rigby are prone to server weather and as the winter months approach it is important to make sure you are ready. On September 17th, Madison Memorial Hospital and Jefferson County will be hosting the Idaho Preparedness Expo from 10am – 4pm at Rigby High School. This event is free to the general public and will provide an environment for attendees to get the hands on experience they need to feel prepared when disaster strikes.

Notable speakers and experts will inform the community on the survival skills needed to make it through different kinds of disasters, making this an empowering event for all who attend.
