Water is something we take for granted every day. It easily comes out of our faucets and we use it for showering, cooking, washing, and drinking. But when an emergency strikes and clean water runs short, we remember just how precious it really is.
Many of us remember the Rexburg flood that happened last year. Though water surged through the town, it was all contaminated and undrinkable. As people gathered their laptops, clothes, and valuables to take with them, gathering clean drinking water may not have been on their minds.
In comparison to other natural disasters, this flood was relatively small and short lived. Water and food were quickly distributed to people in need. But that will not always be the case. In many circumstances, victims of disasters find themselves without any clean source of water for extended periods of time.
On Saturday 17th, Idaho Preparedness Expo presenters will go over water importance and how best to store water for emergencies. Other emergency topics include food storage, fire safety, animal preparedness, and sanitation. Located at Rigby High School, it runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and offers plenty of classes to choose from. You can learn more about the presenters and the different classes by visiting idahoprepare.com. Attending could make the difference between survival and defeat in your next emergency.
